About Us

We offer Western North Carolina's best selection of skateboards, longboards, and snowboards. We carry hardgoods, apparel, boots, and accessories from leading brands in the industry, with a strong commitment to rider-owned companies that keep skateboarding and snowboarding innovative.

Flipside is rider owned and family operated. We believe a real boardshop should be staffed by people who know the equipment, understand the local scene, and give back to the community.

Our story

Flipside Boardshop was Western North Carolina's original skateboard and snowboard shop. The first location opened in 1994 and was purchased by Krista in 1999. It became a staple of old Asheville for more than 21 years. In September 2020, the Lexington Avenue location closed so the family could focus on the Maggie Valley rental shop.

Krista and Jason met in 2006, fell in love, and began planning a Hendersonville location while remodeling the Asheville store together. That shop opened in 2007 near Patton Park Skatepark. It was the first snowsports store in Henderson County to support the area's skateboard and snowboard community. The Hendersonville location closed in 2018 so the family could focus on Maggie Valley.

The Maggie Valley shop opened in 2013 near Cataloochee Ski Area as the area's first dedicated snowboard shop that did not also sell skis. Its rental department grew around brands stocked in the store, giving intermediate and advanced riders better rental and demo choices.

Flipside is proud to support independent rider-owned brands at the heart of the skateboard and snowboard industries. The owners are Western North Carolina natives with decades of combined experience in board sports. They remain hands-on owner-operators who enjoy building lasting relationships with customers.
